We are spoiled for choice this summer in East Sussex with concerts at Glynde Place and Opera at Glyndebourne.
Following last years success Glynde Place just 15 minutes from White Lodge luxury B&B Lewes will be holding a summer concert series. There will be three wonderful concerts by BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artists.
In May Annelien Van Wauwe (clarinet) with Lucas Blondeel (piano accompanist). In June a piano trio of Narek Hakhnazaryan (cello), Zhang Zuo (piano) and the returning Esther Yoo (violin) and finishing off the series in July the Armida Quartet.
At White Lodge we have only been opened a year but we are delighted to welcome back our Glyndebourne guests. One lovely family last week have booked tickets for The Cunning Little Vixen new for 2016.
A story of all the creatures of the forest coming to life in a fox’s tale of love, life and loss. Inspired by a newspaper comic strip, Janáček takes an enchanting tale and turns it into a colourful reflection on the highs and lows of life. Entwining dance and mime into the storytelling, he blends folk-derived melodies with sophisticated, lushly orchestrated harmonies to create a personal and modern musical style. Conducted by Jakub Hrůša and directed by Melly Still, this visually stunning production makes a welcome return to the Glyndebourne stage at Festival 2016.
Following his success in the title role of Saul in 2015, Christopher Purves looks ahead to performing The Forester in The Cunning Little Vixen. He describes Janáček’s score as having ‘moments of sublime tenderness and the most beautifully crafted imagery of nature, of the power of man’.
